GET TO KNOW UNITED STATES

A starting point for your journey.

A United States trip benefits from a clear regional focus. Start with the landscape or experience you want, then choose a base and transport that support it. A coastline, a city and a national park have different distances, seasons and visiting arrangements; placing them on the same country map does not make them one compact itinerary. Our first detailed selection here follows Maine's coast, from lighthouse settings and harbor towns to Acadia. It is a regional beginning rather than a nationwide inventory. Use it to choose a manageable route, leave room for local conditions and verify the practical details with the institutions responsible for each place. In Maine, that means distinguishing state parks, town-managed grounds and the national park rather than assuming a shared entry system. Before booking, check the actual operating year, the locations of overnight stops and how you will make each outward and return journey. Follow official guidance for your circumstances, and allow the plan to become smaller when that gives you more time in the places you came to see.
